Alert Me

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Alert Me (“Alert Me”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Alert Me mobile apps, the website at tryalertme.com, and public QR notification pages (together, the “Service”).

By using the Service, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Alert Me.

Who we are

Alert Me is a personal item labeling and finder-notification service operated at tryalertme.com. Owners register items, attach QR codes, and can receive notifications when someone finds an item and submits a message through a public QR page or the app.

What this Service is not

Alert Me is not an emergency service. Public QR pages and in-app alerts do not contact police, medical responders, or other emergency services. We do not provide legal advice, insurance, or a guarantee that a lost item will be recovered.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an Alert Me account we collect your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and optional phone number. We also store whether your email has been verified and your account status.

Item information. We store the item details you create or manage (such as title, description, item type, and linked QR codes).

Finder notifications. When someone uses a public QR page or the app to notify an owner, we collect the message, the finder name, optional contact details (email or phone if provided), optional photo attachment, optional approximate location (latitude, longitude, and accuracy if the finder chooses to share it), urgency/severity selected by the finder, and technical metadata needed for abuse prevention (such as IP address and submission time).

Device and push data. If you enable push notifications, we store device push tokens (for example FCM tokens) and related device labels so we can deliver alerts to your devices.

Authentication and security data. We store session or API tokens for signed-in app use, password-reset and email-verification tokens, and limited security logs (such as IP address and timestamps) to protect accounts and reduce abuse.

Website and service operations. Our servers automatically process standard technical data needed to operate and secure the Service (for example IP address, approximate request timing, and basic browser or app identifiers). If anti-abuse checks such as reCAPTCHA are enabled, those providers may process technical signals according to their own policies.

How we use information

We use information to:

Provide and operate Alert Me, including accounts, items, QR codes, and finder notifications.

Deliver alerts to item owners by push notification and, where configured, email.

Verify email addresses, reset passwords, and secure accounts.

Prevent spam, fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.

Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve reliability of the Service.

Communicate with you about your account or important Service notices.

We do not sell your personal information.

How finder notifications are shared

A finder notification is delivered to the owner of the related item (and may be visible to Alert Me administrators who operate the Service). Finders should only share information they are comfortable sending to that owner. Owners should treat finder-shared contact details, photos, and location as confidential and use them only to respond about the item.

Public QR pages are designed so that scanning a code does not, by itself, reveal the owner’s email address or phone number to the finder.

Optional location and photos

Location and photos are optional and only collected when a finder chooses to provide them for a specific notification. Alert Me does not continuously track finders or owners in the background for marketing. Device location permission, when used, is for the notification the user is sending.

Third-party service providers

We use service providers only as needed to run Alert Me, such as hosting, email delivery, push-notification delivery, and optional abuse-prevention tools. These providers process information on our behalf under their agreements and policies, and only for operating the Service.

Retention

We keep account, item, and notification data while your account remains active and as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms of Use, and meet legal or security requirements. You may request deletion of your account or related personal data as described below. Some limited records may be retained for a reasonable period for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including access controls and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You can update certain profile details in the Alert Me app.

You can control push notifications through your device settings and by managing registered devices in the app where that feature is available.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with your account by contacting us through the contact method below. We may need to verify your request before acting on it. Some information may be retained where we have a lawful need to keep it (for example security or legal obligations).

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. We will respond to valid requests in line with those laws.

Children

Alert Me is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum digital age of consent in your country, if higher). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

International users

Alert Me may be accessed from different countries. If you use the Service, your information may be processed in the country where our servers or service providers operate. By using Alert Me you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations subject to this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above and post the revised policy at https://tryalertme.com/privacy. For material changes, we may also provide an additional notice through the Service or by email when appropriate. Continued use of Alert Me after an update means you accept the revised policy.
